Are you one of those people that like to relax by your garden pond but dread having to clean it?

Garden ponds are definitely becoming more and more popular. As a result of that, the equipment used to take care of them is getting more sophisticated too. One piece of equipment that is making pond owners lives easier is the pond vacuum.
That is why we decided to take the time to do some informative pond vacuum reviews for you.
If you have never used a pond vacuum or have not kept up with the latest improvements in them, then this buying guide will help. You certainly don’t want to run out and buy the first pond vacuum you see in the store or online. It helps to learn a little bit more about them so you can get the best pond vacuum for your needs.
Here are the key characteristics of pond vacuums and some suggestions to keep in mind when you are shopping for a new one:
The first thing you need to do is set yourself a budget range that you are willing to spend on your new pond vacuum. There is a wide variation in prices for pool vacuums in the pond equipment marketplace.
Consider the size of your pond and how dirty it gets to determine sophisticated a pond vacuum you need.
Power/Max Pump Height
Not all pond vacuums are powerful enough to pull water up high. This could be a critical factor if your pond is deep or you need to set your pond vacuum up higher because of the uneven terrain near it.
Make sure you get a vacuum that meets the power requirements necessary to pull the water up to the height you need it to go. This information should be listed online at the manufacturer’s website or on the pond vacuum packaging.
You are going to be vacuuming some real muck out of your pond. Much of it will be a fine sludge like material. As such you are going to need a good filter to catch this slurry as you vacuum it out of your pond.
That is why it’s important to know what type of filtration system your pond vacuum has. Paper filters will usually catch and trap the smallest particles of sediment and remove them from the pond water. If there is more than one filter type installed in your new pond vacuum, that’s even better.
Ease of Setup/Use
You are looking for a new pond vacuum to make pond cleaning easier. If you buy a pond vacuum that is difficult to set up or difficult to use then you will be defeating that purchase.
Look for a pond vacuum that has hoses that attach simply, attachments that quickly snap on and a generous length power cord.
Ease of Cleanup
You want the cleanup of your new pond vacuum to be simple too. Look for a vacuum that comes apart in many places for easy cleaning. If it is made out of metal or smooth plastic it will make its surface very easy to keep clean too.
Your new pond vacuum is a piece of equipment that is going to be used under some harsh working conditions. Electric motors build up lots of heat when working and you will be using your pond vacuum around potentially corrosive water too.
That is why having a good warranty will give you some peace of mind about your new pond vacuum purchase. Look for a pond vacuum that is comprehensive in what it covers and is valid for the longer period of years possible.

How to Use a Pond Vacuum
If you have ever tried to clean your pond by hand or tried doing it by using non-powered nets and tools, you realize just how tedious a process this can be. A pond vacuum will enable you to clean your pond better, faster and easier than ever before.
These pond cleaning pieces of equipment work very similar to a wet/dry vac. The big exception is they have a discharge hose for the water and they have special attachments specifically designed for pond cleaning.
They also feature a longer vacuum hose so you do not have to move the main vacuum unit around so much as you are cleaning your pond.
You simply set them up in some free space close to the pond and then select the cleaning attachment you prefer to use. Once they are set up, you just walk around the pond and clean up any heavy residue areas on the bottom of the pond.
Here is a YouTube video that demonstrates this in more detail:

Summing Up the Reviews
We really liked all of these model pond vacuums. Any one of them will greatly enhance the ease at which you can clean your pond. There was one model pond vacuum though that we thought was above all the rest. That was the OASE Pondovac 4 Vacuum for Ponds and Water Gardens.
This model does a nice job of cleaning even on deeper ponds. It comes with several different specialized nozzles and bend resistant suction tubes work better than any more traditional suction hose like that found on the other model pond vacuums.
What was the best thing about this model pond vacuum? One of the major complaints with pond vacuums is they frequently shut themselves off to cool or drain. With this model pond vacuum, you can continue both the vacuum and simultaneous draining process for an extended period of time.
It is definitely a model that is worth taking a serious look at before you make your pond vacuum buying decision.
